Mr. Pollock, from the select committee to whom the subject was referred, made the following report: The select committee, to whom was referred the memorial of Asa Whitney, relative to the construction of a railroad from Lake Michigan to the Pacific Ocean. A project of vast magnitude for its time. Proposes the granting of land to the company on either side of the right of way to be sold by them to finance construction. The government would not be involved in the construction or its possible failure. The public would not be burdened with the expense. 77 pages with tables plus two folded maps. Professionally bound in blue quarter leather with blue marbled paper covered boards. Rear endpaper foxed. Overall, a fine, handsome copy.
