INVESTIGATIONS IN ALASKA RAILROAD BELT, 1931. GEOLOGICAL SURVEY BULLETIN 849

Washington, DC: Government Printing Office/GPO, 1933. First edition. Hardcover. Item #36061

When the Alaska Railroad undertook intensive consideration of the problem of finding tonnage that would increase its revenues, it looked to the Geological Survey to supply technical information as to the known mineral deposits along its route and to indicate what might be done to stimulate a larger production of minerals and induce further mining developments and prospecting that would utilize its service. The studies were issued separately in nine reports; bulletins 849-A through 849-I, and also all collected in hardcover with maps in rear pocket. This is the scarce hardcover edition which includes the forward by Smith. All maps present. Bound in original red cloth with lettering in gilt. Neat owner's signature on front endpaper. Spine mildly faded. A solid, very good copy.
