An early American railroad travel guide along the Connecticut River by railroad from Harlem to St. Johnsbury, a distance of 322 miles, made up of the following individual railroads: Harlem Railroad; New York and New Haven Railroad; New Haven, Hartford, and Springfield Railroad, Connecticut River Railroad, Vermont and Massachusetts Railroad, Vermont Valley Railroad, Sullivan Railrod; Vermont Central Railroad; and the Passaumpsic Railroad. "Throughout the entire length of this line there are scarcely a dozen miles without some object of interest to an intelligent traveller. 80 pages illustrated with woodcuts plus a seven foot long folded map of the entire route along the river. Title page has long shallow chip along gutter caused, I suspect, during production. The map is near fine showing only a little toning. This title is bound together with two others; "The Philosophy of Electrical Psychology: in a Course of Twelve Lectures," by John Bovee Dods (1851) and "A Month at Constantinople," by Albert Smith (1851). This was probably done by the publisher for odd titles remaining in stock and sold at a discount, a common practice back in the day. Bound in original half red leather over marbled paper covered boards with raised bands. Endpapers and several of the initial and final pages are foxed, though there are several minor spots of foxing throughout. Bookplate of George D. Kilborn on front paste-down endpaper. A very good plus, handsome copy.
