New York, NY;: Railroad Gazette, 1897. First edition. Hardcover. Item #11162
This book differs from the two previous editions issued under the title, RECENT LOCOMOTIVES, in 1883 and 1886. It is not simply a reprint of engravings and specifications which have been published in the Railroad Gazette. Most of these drawings have been furnished by the railroad companies or makers. It limits the locomotives shown to those which were in present use and to include fairly representative types of all steam and electric locomotives built in the US. To these were added illustrations and descriptions of a number of foreigh-built types. 448 pages of locomotive information, photographs, drawings and diagrams and ads in the rear. Recently rebound in three quarter leather with original leather covers. New endpapers. Illinois Central stamp dated 1897. Owner's note where book was purchased on rear endpaper. An about fine, solid copy of a very scarce book of locomotive development with light wear to original leather.
