THE LITTLE ENGINE THAT COULD

New York: Platt & Munk Co. Ltd., 1930. Lois L. Lenski. First edition, first printing. Hardcover. Item #46705

This title was originally issued in 1930 in blue coth cover with black spine, without a dust jacket but within an illustrated box. In the early 30's the book was issued in original red cloth with title and color illustration label pressed on the front cover. The Never Grow Old Series listing on the reverse of the front free endpaper ends with The Little Engine... This is variant issue Aa with the two lines at the bottom left corner of the front cover beginning with No. 358. Copy right date on the copyright page "1930." Color illustrated endpapers. The dust jacket is variant Ac or Ad with two lines instead of one on the lower left of the front panel of the dust jacket beginning with "No. 358" and listing six titles with no border on the rear panel. The front flap with short synopsis about The Little Engine That Could and the rear flap blank. It is suspected this dust jacket was printed between 1934 to 1936. Points referenced in Children's Picturebook Collecting. A fine copy in an about very good dust jacket with several small chips and tiny edge tears.
