The first cover with cancellation U.S.S. Paul Jones, Philippines Islands, Mar. 28, 1938. USS Paul Jones (DD-230/AG-120) was a Clemson-class destroyer in the United States Navy during World War II. The second cover with cancellation U.S.S. Ashville, Shanghai, China, Jul. 4, 1938. In 1938, The gunboat USS Asheville (PG-21) served in the Asiatic Fleet, patrolling Chinese coastal waters and treaty ports as escalating tensions rose during the Second Sino-Japanese War. It was sunk in March 1942. Near fine covers.
