LOCOMOTIVE CYCLOPEDIA OF AMERICAN PRACTICE, 1944

New York: Simmons-Boardman Publishing Corporation, 1944. Twelfth edition Definitions and typical illustrations of steam, electric and diesel locomotives for railroad and industrial service, their parts and equipment. Also, locomotives built in America for operation in foreign countries. Includes a section on locomotive shops and engine terminals. 1396 pages. Many builders' photographs and dimensional diagrams of late steam and early diesel locomotives. During World War II, quality paper was rationed, thus the number of copies published of the 1944 Cyclopedia was limited. Raw materials required for the war effort also limited the number of locomotives constructed. Bound in original dark blue cloth with lettering printed in gold. Front free endpaper removed, else a very good plus cover of this relatively scarce edition. Hardcover (Item ID: 41025)
